Who We Are

Saturnema Films is a Brazilian audiovisual production company that stands out for its 100% Black team and its commitment to genre cinema, such as science fiction, horror, and fantasy. Led by filmmaker Ana do Carmo and executive producer Rubian Melo—both talents supported by Projeto Paradiso—Saturnema's main goal is to amplify Black narratives, exploring themes such as identity, ancestry, and resistance.

Since 2016, the company has received over 30 awards, and was highlighted by Pequenas Empresas & Grandes Negócios (Editora Globo) as one of the 30 women-led companies making a difference in Brazil.

Saturnema has produced short films selected for over 30 festivals and screened in more than 10 countries, including A Mulher no Fim do Mundo (Los Angeles Brazilian Film Festival) and Nevrose (Atlanta Women's Film Festival). The company has won awards in labs such as Festival Guiões (Portugal), BrLab Features, Nordeste Lab, Nicho 54, Cabíria Festival, and FRAPA (the largest script contest in Latin America).

It was selected for international co-production workshops like Produire au Sud (France) and Lab Varilux (Brazil/France), and has participated in global film markets such as Marché du Film (Cannes), EFM (Berlinale), SXSW (Texas), PLOT (Portugal), FIN Partners (Canada), and AFM (Los Angeles).

The company worked in local production on the feature film Insubmissas, by Daza Filmes (screened at Festival do Rio, Mix Brasil, Vitória Film Festival, and Sibiu International Theatre Festival in Romania, and featured in Vogue Cultura), and on the documentary feature Anna Borges do Sacramento, a Brazil–Spain co-production awarded at Conecta – Encuentro Internacional de Industria Documental (Chile).

Currently, Saturnema is in pre-production of the sci-fi feature film Sol a Pino, with distribution by Vitrine Filmes. It is also co-producing a horror feature film with Malu Miranda Produções, scheduled for shooting in 2026 and distribution by Imagem Filmes.

The company also created the Películas Negras label, which operates both as an audiovisual lab for emerging Black filmmakers (with two editions held) and as a creative hub for fiction project development, focused on genre cinema and Black talent.
